"Little Girl came into our life when my friend Wendy emailed me that she needed my help in finding a good home for her poodle Little Girl. Wendy is losing her sight and wanted to make sure that Little Girl would be taken care of her remaining years. I agreed to help find her a home and called several rescues. They were unable to take another senior dog as their resources were stretched. I spent the rest of the day searching on the web for help. AARF was the only one who came up with a program "Silver Paws" to match a senior with a senior dog. Absolutely brilliant. I called the number, left a message and went shopping. When I returned there was a message from Renee, AARF's VP of Animal Services. I called her back and she said she thought they could help me. I filled out the application and waited to see if anyone wanted to take her. After 3 weeks I called Renee who said there was no one expressing interest yet. After having her in our home for 3 weeks, my husband, Joe said "how will we be able to give her away?" She already felt like a part of our family. She absolutely adores Joe and is always sitting next to him every chance she gets. So I asked Renee if she thought we could be her permanent foster family. I was ecstatic when Carroll, the Silver Paws coordinator called to tell us we were approved for the Silver Paws Foster Program. Finding AARF and Silver Paws was an absolute Godsend. We are honored to be a part of AARF and the wonderful people who make it work so well."
"Now a little more about our precious new addition. Little Girl is an 8 lb. toy poodle full of boundless energy and joy. She is 12 years old but certainly does not act her age. She twirls and jumps in the air when she is excited. She loves everyone including dogs of all sizes. She gets along well with our two other dogs, Petey and Blossom and Scooter, our cat. She has great manners and is very affectionate. She surprises us everyday with some new trick. She loves rides in the car and walks in the park. She has cataracts but seems to see well enough. We will make sure she is loved and spoiled since she deserves it plus we spoil all our firkins!" |
